Once guests have proven their basic riding skills, they can experience one of Siwash Lake Ranch's most-valued features: the ability to explore the aspen and ponderosa-pine forest on horseback without a guide or other guests. So as you picnic alone among wildflowers in a pristine meadow or indulge in a refreshing dip in an isolated lake or river, you will fully appreciate this policy and the freedom Siwash affords.

First time riders can explore the trails as well, accompanied by a guide to ensure safety. All guests, beginner through advanced, are taught and encouraged to groom and saddle their horses. Personal mounts — trustworthy and responsive — are matched perfectly with individual riding abilities.

And yet guests can do more than gallop side-by-side across a plateau during a Siwash stay. A visit in spring, summer or fall allows guests to cast a fly to a rising rainbow trout, paddle a canoe at sunset across Siwash Lake, mountain bike an array of trails or simply relax by the impressive river-rock fireplace with a glass of fine wine, engaging in conversation and listening to the natural counterpoint of owls, coyotes and wolves expressing themselves. Winter features the wonderfully wild, adrenalin pumping moments of dog sledding and snowmobiling, along with a palate of other winter activities.

Rustic elegance defines this exclusive boutique lodge, where guests are pampered in six luxuriously appointed guest rooms with beautiful wilderness views. Some have French doors leading onto private verandahs, and all have en-suite bathrooms. Siwash guests enjoy the nurturing effects of deep soaking tubs, fluffy robes and heavenly beds dressed with eiderdown and Egyptian linens.

Delicious, upscale cuisine is served in our casually elegant dining room, which offers romantic table settings for two and family style dining. Private, “alfresco” dining is also available. The ranch is generally adult oriented except throughout the summer months when our Free-Range Kids program caters especially to families with young children.
